9th Annual GDS Summit on Sexual Assault & Consent

The overwhelming cultural perception of consent is largely focused on female identified partners giving consent. It is critically important that we uplift the voices and experiences of a diversity of survivors in order to foster safety and supportive resources to all. In this session, we will share our new short film discussing the experience of a male survivor and helping to dispel the myth that young men can't experience assault or unhealthy relationships. We will invite participants to learn and share ways to reduce myths and increase access to healing and support in their schools and among their peers.

In this session, educators will learn about the research based approach SafeBAE offers to training students as peer educators, providing a comprehensive curriculum, restorative justice tools for use with perpetrators, and policy reform guidance. We will introduce all the ways schools can take a full spectrum approach to preventing and better responding to dating violence among students, as well as the published data to support the efficacy of this approach. We will also share upcoming school partner opportunities through a research study we will be partnering on with Brown University and RI Hospital.

In this session, we will introduce students to an opportunity to further their expertise in dating violence prevention. SafeBAE's Certified Peer Educator Training is virtual, self paced, and is available entirely for free to any student. This is a resource all attendees can take away from the Summit to enhance both their knowledge and their college resume. Upon completion, peer educators will receive a certificate and Linkedin certification to show their knowledge and dedication to their leadership in dating violence prevention, as well as access to apply for other leadership opportunities in the organization.
